The beadwork on this skirt was created in the 1890s by Meras Kinbasket, eldest daughter of Secwepemc chief Pierre Kinbasket. Meras planned to marry a Ktunaxa (Kutenai) man and, as part of her wedding preparations, made garments for her trousseau. Chief Kinbasket, however, forbade the marriage. He wanted his daughter to marry within her own culture. Hide, wool, glass beads and brass bells.
